  • This is even harder to stomach considering how much of that food goes to waste. For two weeks this summer I worked for Casey's, a chain of convenience stores in the Midwest, and I was appalled to learn that the kitchen staff has to make enough food so that 23% of it gets thrown away. And in bigger urban areas they are required to dump bleach on their waste in order to deter homeless people from dumpster diving. I fucking hate this country!

Why should this be an Eye for an Eye situation?

  • The threat to fire someone reminded me of a Walgreens manager when I went to the urgent care clinic the day after I hurt my shoulder at work. He had the book keeper and other staff leave the office, locked the door, watched everyone get out of hearing range and started throwing anything he could find across the office and screaming his outrage at me not coming to him personally so he could decide what to do. Nevermind the fact that I was still in high school and managed to fit the Dr visit between school and work and be on time for work. He really didn't like the physical therapy I had to go to 3 times a week for several months. I wasn't thrilled with not being able to raise my arm either though.

  • Back where I used to live in western Kentucky, Tyson has been setting up shop with chicken processing facilities. The rancid smell of these facilities can be smelled for literally miles. Just imagine trying to grill your Tyson chicken outside with the most terrible stench, which smells like a corpse farm operating from visual distance from your back porch. A guy who worked at one of these facilities died when he fell into a vat of waste. It was said at his funeral, you could still smell the stench of the chicken farm on him.

I worry for your safety (and citizenship status, not necessarily in that order) about you. The US government has overthrown democratically elected governments when the policies of said governments were too generous to workers. Iran and Guatemala come to mind. You're just one person. You keep this up, well say hi to Jimmy Hoffa or Karen Silkwood for me.

I think that is just that industry, it’s a awful industry, where we do horrible things to delicious animals. I personally choose not to pay attention to what we do to animals at these plants and as for the human element... I honestly care more about the animals than I do the humans, people can always quit.
